2026 UPCOMING MEETINGS

Saturday, January 10- Hatsuike
Masumi Naylor-  Branch Shoka Shofutai
Mimi Santini-Ritt- Free-style Match-Up
Each person brings a freestyle container. Containers are assigned a number.  Corresponding numbers go into a hat.  Attendees will then choose a number out of the hat and the number that matches the container is the one they have to do the freestyle arrangement in.  In the unlikely event, you draw the number corresponding to the container you brought, you will draw a new number.

February- Date is TBD
Dan Agnese via zoom will talk about Ukiyo-e
Enjoy a fascinating 300-year old Ikebana journey through Ukiyo-e (wood block prints of the floating world) with the presentation of triptychs. While there are perhaps thousands of Japanese Ukiyo-e that have Ikebana arrangements in them, there are actually a very limited number of Ikebana performance triptychs (grand expansive narrative Ukiyo-e with a three-panel composition) in existence today. Travel with us through the first development of Ukiyo-e to their climax in the modern world.  Experience Japanese history, taste, style and fashion in the pageantry of unusual and exotic Ikebana triptych woodblock prints.

We schedule monthly workshops focused on a specific style of Ikenobo Ikebana from September to June. You can view arrangements from recent workshops in our gallery. Details for upcoming workshops are on our events page, and are also sent to our email list. If you would like to see what Ikenobo Ikebana is all about, you are welcome to observe a workshop at no cost, or to participate for the normal fee. If you have just joined Ikebana International, you may participate in one local-teacher workshop for the cost of the floral material.

The majority of workshops are led by a certified teacher from our membership. We have two special workshops per year, one taught by a high-ranking US-based teacher and one by a visiting professor from Ikenobo Headquarters in Kyoto. Due to the high demand for these special events, participation is limited to current members of a chapter of the Ikenobo Society of Floral Art.

The cost for individual workshops generally range from $55 for a standard workshop and $80 for a visiting professor, including floral material. For planning purposes, reservations are required and payment must be remitted one week before the workshop. Workshops are held at St Agnes Church Parish Hall, 186 Woburn Street, Reading MA 01867, unless otherwise noted. Members of other Ikenobo chapters may participate in any Boston Chapter workshop for $10 above the normal fee. At present we are accepting payment only by personal check made out to the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Boston. We hope to implement online payment in the future.
