The Workshops
The focus of the two workshops was shimputai, the 20th century ikenobo style that represents the
evolution from the traditional shoka and rikka to modern interpretations. Professor Nakamura explained to us the latest approaches to shimputai arrangements.

Thursday, October 12.
The morning workshop covered the fundamentals of shoka shimputai, first practiced in 1977.  The afternoon workshop featured futakabu-ike, a variation of shoka shimputai that uses two kenzan in one container.

Saturday, October 14
This all-day workshop was devoted to rikka shimputai, which was introduced in 1999.  Previous experience with rikka shofutai was helpful but not a requirement.

The October 14 workshop focused on Rikka shimputai
